Getting started with LeanPocket

  1. First things first, this app requires that you already have an account set up with LeanKit. If you don't have one yet, you'll need to create your first kanban board by visiting LeanKit.com from a desktop or laptop computer.
  2. Open LeanPocket from your Android device and log in using the credentials you've just set up with LeanKit.
  3. Immediately you'll notice that the navigation drawer is displayed and will load up your kanban boards. Once loaded, you'll need to choose a board to work with.
  4. At the bottom of the navigation drawer, you'll notice three disabled buttons that will become active once your board is loaded. This is how you will get to the different sections of your board. If you don't know already, your Backlog is where you store unplanned tasks that you intend to take on in the future, In Flight is your current work, and Archive is where you store cards after completing them.
  5. Once you've chosen a board to work with, your left-most child lane will be displayed with your cards. A mobile device is too small to show your entire board, so we've decided to lay out the app one lane at a time. Use the drop-down menu to navigate between all of your child lanes (child lanes are all lanes that can hold cards.)
  6. You can slide out the navigation drawer by swiping from the left edge of the screen to get to your boards and board sections. You can also change accounts from the drawer if you have more than one.

Common Tasks:

Add cards:touch the plus (+) icon in the action bar.

Delete cards: from any lane view, long-press (touch a card and hold for a moment) until the contextual action bar (CAB) displays options to modify the card. Touch the trash can icon to delete the selected card, or select multiple cards to delete many at once. You can also delete a card from the card detail view by touching a card and clicking 'delete' from the overflow menu in the top right corner of the card detail screen.

Move cards: long-press a card to reveal the CAB and touch the 'Move to' icon. A dialog will display where you can choose the desired lane to move the card to.

Edit cards: you can edit a card by touching the pencil icon from the CAB, or from the card detail screen.

Card comments: A premium feature, card comments let you communicate issues to your friends and teammates through a simple interface. Consider buying the upgrade to remove ads and support future development.

Refresh board: the refresh button can be found in the overflow menu on the main card grid screen. Use this to ensure you are working with the most up-to-date version of your kanban board.

Settings:

Add an account: Open the settings screen from the overflow menu and touch the 'Add Account' button at the top of the screen to add more accounts. Once added, visit the navigation drawer to change to the newly added account.

New or moved card position: When you move a card or create a new one, it will be placed either at the top of the lane, or the bottom, your choice.

Remember board choice: After you have chosen a board, LeanPocket will automatically load this board whenever you open the app. This option is selected by default.

Keep description format: From LeanKit's web interface, you can apply complex formatting to your card descriptions. This formatting will be lost if you edit a card from LeanPocket unless you enable this setting. The formatting will be maintained by using HTML formatting tags inline of the description input box. They look funny, so I decided to disable this option by default. Without the option enabled, LeanPocket will do its best to maintain line breaks and things like bold or italic font, but colors, hyperlinks, and bullet points would be lost.

Animate cards into lane: Turn this option off if your hardware can't display card animations nicely and you don't want to be slowed down by them.

About: visit the About page to learn a little about LeanPocket, and leave a good review if you like the app!

Send me feedback: You can send feedback to me via email through the 'Send Feedback' menu option.

Upgrade: Upgrading will give you access to card comments and all future premium features. It will also remove ads (Ads will not start displaying until 5 days after you have purchased the app). Consider upgrading to support continued development of LeanPocket.

Logging out: If you wish to prevent people who get ahold of your phone from getting access to your kanban board, consider putting password locks on your sensitive apps by using other apps made for such purposes on the play store. Also, you can go to the 'Accounts' section of your Android's device settings and remove your LeanPocket accounts from there.

Known issues:

Description formatting will be lost if you do not enable the 'Keep description formatting' setting. It will only be lost if you update a card, not just by viewing one.
